La morte aveva già colto lo scultore
Giulio Cozzoli quando, nel Venerdė di Passione, la nuova immagine
dell'Addolorata venne portata in processione. Come la precedente,
anche in questa immagine sono visibili solo il volto, le mani
e i piedi. Gli occhi rivolti al cielo, in uno sguardo supplichevole,
impietrita dal dolore, l'Addolorata č eretta ai piedi della
croce, dalla quale pende la sindone disposta sul braccio corto
in modo da formare una "M", che simboleggia l'intima partecipazione
della Madre alla passione di Gesų. La figura č nascosta dall'elegante
veste luttuosa, in velluto nero, trapunta di ricami in oro.
Il capo č coperto dal manto che, scendendo sulle spalle, raggiunge
il margine della barocca base dorata. Non mancano altresė
gli attributi specifici: la spada infissa nel petto, il ricamato
fazzoletto bianco, che simboleggia l'ininterrotto pianto e
lo stellario composto da dodici stelle, simboleggianti quelle
dell'Apocalisse. Con questa opera si concluse un periodo storico
per l'Arciconfraternita, il cinquantennio 1907-1958. In quest'arco
di tempo, alcune statue sono state rifatte, altre modificate,
altre aggiunte al corteo processionale. Il desiderio dell'artista,
dei confratelli e del popolo fu esaudito

Sculptor Giulio Cozzoli had already died
when, on Friday of Passion, the new statue of Our Lady of
Sorrows was carried in procession. Like the previous one,
also in this image only the face, the hands and the feet
are visible. The eyes turned to the sky, in a pleading look,
petrified with pain, Our Lady of Sorrows is erected at the
foot of the cross, from which the hanging sindon disposed
on the short arm so as to form a "M", that symbolizes the
intimate participation of the Mother to passion Jesus's
passion. The figure is hidden from the elegant mournful
garment, in black velvet, dotted with golden embroideries.
The head is covered by the mantle that, coming down on the
shoulders, catches up the margin of the baroque golden base.
The specific attributes also do not lack: the sword sticked
in the chest, the white embroidered handkerchief, that symbolizes
the uninterrupted crying and the "stellario" made up of
twelve stars, symbolizing those of the Apocalypse. With
this work a historical period for the Archconfraternity
was concluded, the fifty-year period 1907-1958. In this
lapse of time, some statues have been remade, others modified,
others added to the procession. The artist, the brothers
and the people's desire was fulfilled!
